Jean and Guy Harden

Jean and Guy have been married for 30 years and have lived in Smith County for most of those years. Jean has been a school bus driver and sub- teacher for Smith County for the last 12 years. Guy was a musician for the last 35 years, working with the likes of  Alabama, many Opry stars, etc. He was also a regular on the Ralph Emery TV Show and appeared on CNN, Channel 4 Magazine a TV show with Charlie Chase just to mention a few.

Jeans' hobbies are horse back riding and wood carving. Right now she doesn't have much time for either, with the campground. The park keeps her real busy. But you can see some of her carvings, they are for sale in the office store.

Guys' hobbies are easy to guess, he is either playing one of his guitars or out fishing in his jon boat. But again he doesn't have much time for fun either with the campground. There is always alot of grass to cut.

The Story Behind Indian Creek

The Hardens almost missed an opportunity of a lifetime.

In 2004, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers closed the park, which is located on Cordell Hull Lake, in an attempt to scale back operations. The community around the campground tried to persuade the Corps to change their minds about abandoning the park. They did agree to advertise the campground in an effort to locate an operator.

The Hardens saw the ad to lease the park, but naturally assumed there would be so many applicants wanting to pursue the project that they would not have a chance. To Jean's surprise, no one put in a proposal and the deadline came and went. Jean decided to submit her bid anyway and with great relief and in spite of missing the deadline, the Corps agreed to review it.

After completing a process, which included rewriting her proposal several times, seven months of meetings, and obtaining financing from banker Randall Clemmons of Wilson Bank and Trust in Lebanon, the Corps finally accepted her proposal.

The Hardens are excited and proud of their plans for Indian Creek. Jean said they will work hard to keep the park a family friendly environment where you will feel comfortable letting your children play and enjoy the natural beauty of the park at its best.

Friends of Indian Creek

Indian Creek would not be as wonderful, if not for the help of our volunteers. We need to do a special thank you to our number one volunteer, Bruce. Bruce has put in more hours than all the other volunteers together. Bruce goes out of his way to be extra helpfull. He cleans, mows, repairs, and the list goes on and on.

If you would like to volunteer your time, please call any time. And Bruce could sure use the help, he can't do it alone.
